A Live Young Christmas Poem

‘Twas a week before Christmas, and Hannukkah’s done.
And yet I still wonder, “What of Live Young”?
Every year I feature twelve or thirteen
Anti-aging gifts on which I am keen
To share with subscribers, the tricks of the trade.
Potions and gadgets so proudly displayed.
Jenny, Gina and Neal, our holiday show
Even my husband joined us. Three years in a row.
But this year, we all feel we’ve aged quite a plenty
Think of the stresses that mark 2020.
On COVID
On Shel’tring
And on Quarantines.
On T.P.
On Purell
On Zoom’s on our Screens.
The stresses have added up, leaving their trace
(That, thank god, are hidden by masks on our face.)
Anxiety and fear have built up to peak.
It seemed things couldn’t have gotten more bleak.
But now comes an answer, you know what I mean.
Science has saved us – at last, the vaccine.

Continue to ponder
Our way back to “normal.”
(And thanks, first responders)
There’s many to thank, and more than a few,
The teachers, the nurses, and grocery clerks, too.
Mailpersons, janitors, drivers and such.
You kept us supplied. You delivered so much.
In fact, while we’re sorting out “naughty and nice,”
On our “hero list,” we’re checking you twice.
You kept your cool while tempers were raging,
We should gift you the gifts of – yes – anti-aging.
To Mothers, to Fathers, to Husbands and Wives.
After a year like this one (the worst of our lives),
With wrinkles more creased, and scales looked at with dread.
(Why were we baking so much sourdough bread?)
It’s an excellent time for a last-minute gift
(Perhaps to ourselves, to give us a lift.)
I’m here at your service, I’m right here, right now.
The same “who” and “what” – but not the same “how.”
I’ve canceled the show, and this breaks my heart.
But how can we film it – while six feet apart?
So I’ll scoot up the chimney, but I’ll leave behind
